WEEK 4 4/10/11 Paper Folding- Large Scale

We used our rule based shapes we made week ago and enlarged them to paper Ao size. After we manipulate them into 3D shapes.
I played around with it and tried on the mannequin to see how it will turn out. What was interesting to me is we were creating the shapes away from the mannequin and after we we were placing it on the body shape. It made you not to think of the body at first but to focus on the shape.

After we have been working in pairs combining two shapes together.

This showed completly new approach and helped to create new unusual shapes which are after translate into innovative patterns.

And pages from my sketchbook...

It is worth seeing work of an artis Mauricio Velasquez Posada who has created some gorgeous experimental fashion garments titled Geomorfos...

I think it is essential to see work of japanese designer Issey Miyake and her newest collection Autumn Winter 2011 at Paris Fashion Week...

Another designer playing with geometrical shapes is Irina Shaposhnikova. Her collection Crystallographica consists of garments inspired by geological formations of crystals and minerals.

WEEK 3 27/09/11 Paper Folding

We were working individually. We were given initial shape then we created our rules. The shape given on our table was triangle so I have started with the triangle. Working along with my rules and adding and removing shapes created an unusual shape out of it.

I think the flat shapes itselfs are very interesting... I found it as a nice idea for print :)

Then we played with paper folding what gaves even more interesting 3D shapes already.

The exercise helped me gain knowledge how shapes can manipulate into different forms and how the shape behave in 2D and 3D form.
